"Physical" loopback cable

Post by dfex » Mon May 11, 2020 3:47 am

Hi there,

Is it possible to attach a "physical" loopback cable to a device? - eg: connect Port 1 of a device to Port 2 on itself.

In theory, the underlying ovs bridge should make this possible, but the drag-and-drop UI makes this difficult because you can't drag a link back to the same link icon you came from.

Never mind - I just answered my own question :D

For those who come here in the future: If you add a new "network" object and then wire it into and out of your device, you will achieve a loopback. Have tested with a vQFX and can see spanning-tree detecting a Backup port due to the BPDU being received by the same switch that sent it.
