Unable to add Linux host in EVE-NG

Post by s494r » Sun Oct 18, 2020 2:15 pm

Hi Folks,

I have added the linux image by creating a directory which is shown in the wiki page of eve-ng, but when i try to add the linux host by creating a lab, the linux host is not available. The linux option is greyed out. What i'm doing wrong / missing here?

Thank you,
Sagar Hiremath

I just uploaded a few different images yesterday. Did you use the community provided images that the site links you to in the documentation? You may need to run the commands to unzip the image and remove the original file before it shows up properly.

Hi there!

I will definitely look into the one you mentioned. Before that, does it mean I cannot use a .iso image from the internet and convert it to cdrom.iso as mentioned in the wiki (documentation)?

Let me give some background as to what happened...
Before this I had accidently deleted the "qemu-img" from the path /opt/qemu/bin/. Then I added the file back using "touch qemu-img" in that directory. After this it doesn't seem to work.

Any work arounds here?

Hey, I am facing the same issue. I have followed the steps in eve-ng but when I try to load linux it doesnt load. It remain as grey status and nothing happens. Where the logs is located to find out what are the reasons why it is not loading the linux image? Thanks

Hello guys! I found the solution after some researches!

The simulation is performed if VT-x is enabled and first of all you need to check out if in the BIOS it is already enabled. (For example: There is some option similar" Ĩntel Virtualization Technology" is enabled). After you check it you need to open your Virtualbox and check if VT-x is enabled. In my case was not enabled and I had to follow the following steps:

Steps:

1 ) - Check if VT-x is enabled on VirtualBox (probably will be disabled as I found in my case);

2 ) - sudo apt-get install cpu-checker and sudo kvm-ok (Those commands will tell you if you are able to use this feature)

3 ) - rribeiro@ORR-ThinkPad-W530:~$ vboxmanage list vms
"EVE-COMM-VM" {7a36d635-21e0-487f-a7ba-d5fef2acfe2f}

(It will list the system which you will select to enable VT-x)

4 ) - rribeiro@ORR-ThinkPad-W530:~$ vboxmanage modifyvm "EVE-COMM-VM" --nested-hw-virt on ( After that you are able to start Virtual box with VT-x enabled)

Thanks, Onildo R Ribeiro

In fact I found some issues, it is true. But I was able to simulate internet inside of my network and son on. What kind of issues you are talking about ? Could you please describe them ? Regards, Onildo R Ribeiro
