AMD Ryzen CPU Support

Post by stsfred » Sun May 28, 2017 4:27 pm

Dear Team,

Just installed my new config (AMD Ryzen, 64GB RAM) and EVE-NG does not recognize AMD-V feature, but it is enabled in BIOS and also, according to HWINFO, it is enabled. Is it possible to check this?
(win 10 64bit, vmware ws player 12)

Did anyone have success using eve-ng with Ryzen CPU?

Thanks
Fred

unfortunately no SIR, AMD is not ok with EVE.
Because of subvirtualization issues..
if run EVE install as bare on on this PC, like Ubuntu server as native and then EVE, probably you will have success..
but VM workstation sorry NO

Hi guys,

thanks for your reply.
I managed to make it work like this:

Imported my previous eve-ng virtual machine (that was created few months ago on an intel based system) into WMV. It didn't start, but after I unticked "Virtualize CPU performance counters" under CPU settings, it started and didn't whine about the lack of virtualization support (VT-x ot AMD-V) of the cpu. Xrv, Csr1000v, and iol seems to be working now.

Are you planning to support AMD cpus "officially"?

Hi guys.

I have a doubt.
Can someone confirm if the follow CPU is supported by EVE?
I'm thinking buy AMD threadripper 2990 or anyone from this CPU family.

Thanks.

@Fernando Aguiar: Could you please help me and suggest, if EVE-Pro will work with AMD with below mentioned specification:

Processor : Threadripper 2950x
Motherboard : MST x399 Creation

Also please share your experience or issues/bugs you found while EVE with AMD environment.

Thanks in advance. Looking for a reply.

Hello,

Just installed EVE on my PC using VMware Workstation Player (the free version)
Desktop specs:
Aorus Gigabyte AX370-Gaming 5
AMD Ryzen 5 1600
48Gb RAM DDR4 2666Hz
500Gb SSD Samsung

EVE VM specs:
8 cores assigned
32 Gb RAM
100Gb storage

So far I have only installed IOL images for L2 and L3 and it seems to be working properly (tested an environment running BGP+OSPF). The following weeks I will also test CSR1000V and XRV9k and will let you know how they work.

Radu
