DCE/DTE Selection in serial cable

I was working on a lab in eve ng and I wanted to test some things with serial cables. But when I have 2 routers with and Cisco IOL image and I connect a serial cable between these two nodes both cables are recognized as a DCE cable (or in the case of 1 image both where DTE). Is there any way in eve to select which type of cable this is?

virtual routers have not such option on serial interfaces !!!

Why not? For a lab (practice for my CCNA exam) I had to make a serial HLDC link between two routers. But the first time I tried both connections where a DTE cable so I couldn't set the clock rate. After that I used another image and both where a DCE cable so still couldn't get the full thing to work properly. Is this just something which isn't supported? In a program like packet tracer you can edit the cable to say which type of cable it is etc, I was looking for this in eve also but can't find it.

Did you ever tried if that works?
EVE doesn't emulate the physical layer which is why the serial connections should work even though they are both DCE

I tried it. If they are both DCE it seems to work now. But with some images it connected as a DTE instead and then I couldn't make it work.
