CE Install Not Working

Before posting something, READ the changelog, WATCH the videos, howto and provide following:
Your install is: Bare metal, ESXi, what CPU model, RAM, HD, what EVE version you have, output of the uname -a and any other info that might help us faster.

CE Install Not Working

Downloaded latest community ed.(CE) ISO, following instructions in CE Cookbook. VMware Workstation 15+ There's no splash screen to select install eve-ng. The Ubuntu server installation auto starts and configures itself, there are no pauses for user input. When it's done installing it goes to the Ubuntu login: prompt.

At that point I'm left wondering what to do next.

I've tried setting the root password. Made sure the ISO is still in the CD tray. Rebooted.

I downloaded the OVF version and the install worked.
