hi! i start to learn this software which is incredible!!
usage: eve-ng on vmware workstation
I try to use esxi image : all is ok.
I try to add one hdd on my esxi vm : all is ok
i try to add 3 more in total: all is ok
when i try to add a fourth one: my vm does not want to start .
if i remove the 5th HDD (1 disk esxi + 4 add)so 4 in total : the vm start again


is there a limitation on 4 HDD max per esxi vm ?

it is your esxi stotage issue then..
I have eve with 7 HDD and no issues

My setup is the following one:

EVE-ng is installed on a VMware Workstation.
Through EVE-NG, i want to build a VMWARE lab
I follow the guide : https://www.eve-ng.net/documentation/ho ... -ware-esxi
conver disk1 and add hdb (second disk) as indicated in the link , so 2 HDD on my Esxi vm
so i use New lab, add node: ESXi, setup memory, cpu and network.

All is ok

next i wanted to add 2 more disks through the command:
/opt/qemu/bin/qemu-img create -f qcow2 hdc.qcow2 100G
/opt/qemu/bin/qemu-img create -f qcow2 hdd.qcow2 100G

all is ok again.

Same thing with a 5th disk:
/opt/qemu/bin/qemu-img create -f qcow2 hde.qcow2 100G

no ESXi VM could start

I delete hde

the ESXi VM start.

So i think it is not a ESXi storage problem because i even not able to start the VM. And the same ESXi installation files is ok with 8 HDD on VM workstation direct (without Eve-NG).

do i need to add the same number of HDD to the eve-ng vm ?

ESXi nested node will be all right only on Bare EVE install..
VM ware workstation is almost not capable run such node. Adding 4 HDDs as storage on this node..I think you trying to kill all possibilities for virtual world.
Please count that esxi is running as subvirtualization and IT IS NOT like REAL HW !!! You simply want too much from nested sub VM !!!
One or max 2 storages for your nested esxi will be more than enough.

Believe me, one HDD will always work faster than 2-3. It is not advice only for EVE but for any VM

I made vMotion lab on EVE, vCentre, x2 esxi and VM on esxi as Slax linux to test vMotion.
ESXi are multihomed on Nexus vPC.

DO NOT Overavalue nested node possibilities please !!! It is not real HW.

Thx a lot for your advices. I understand well what u r saying.
i would like to use Several HDD in order to test vSAN.

So i will go for 1 or 2HDD per ESXi to test and plan to go for a bare install of EVE-NG.

Btw, is it possible to have the lab you show me in your answer ?
