Hi,
My understanding (and I'm probably wrong) is that some of the newer Intel VT features are only required when running UNL/EVE as a VM under ESXi to allow nested 64-bit VMs to run.
Would EVE work on older virtualization hardware as a bare metal install? So no VM nesting required...have an older Dell T5400 (Xeon 5430 based workstation w/16 cores & 32G RAM) I'd like to re-purpose if possible.
Or just a matter of "try it and see"?

Probably yes, just be sure that you have Intel-VTx support. Other no way

Cheers! So the 5430's have VT-x, but not VT-x with EPT...guessing the EPT allows the nesting. Something to try this weekend!

Re: Bare Metal Install on Older Hardware
i am running bare metal on very old ibm server with a xeon 5160 processor (lga 771) ........working fine....
as long as it support VT-x....will just do
(running EVE-NG on top of ESXi will not work on this machine 'coz the processor doesn't support EPT)
