Hello,
Is it possible to switch to a different version of IOS on a router in a lab WITHOUT deleting the device?

come nodes does not allow to do it,
Dynamips.
REst you can change image but wipe node nvram is a must to force use new image.
for that exist configuration export feature.
Export your cfg
wipe node
change image
boot from exported
