Is there a maximum number of ports for a VM ?

I'm trying to run the vJUNOS switch with more than the standard 10 ports.
I've added this to the config
user@host# set chassis fpc 0 pic 0 number-of-ports 48
Then I adjust the device in eve-ng to have 48 ports.
However in eve-ng the switch just starts then stops again after a few seconds.

Is there a trick here I'm missing ?

Separately I'm running a Juniper vMX with 24 ports so I'm pretty sure the issue is with Junos on eve but checking here just in case.
