Hello Gents
I would like to thank you so much for this Glorious Eve , I am using this emulator since it was IOU then UNL , also I want to thank you Uldis for all your support and replies during all these years .
I want to ask regarding the AMD processor and I already know its not officially supported unless its bare-metal Eve, but is there a plan to make offcially support the newest AMD processors even as workstation nested and/or Esxi ?
I am planning to assemble a nice PC and I wanted the new intel i9 10980XE , but almost all the X299 processor not available in the market and i am thinking seriously to use the nice AMD Threadreaper processors , the only thing holding me back is Eve-ng support of AMD .

what I will be using Eve for when I get the new PC ? huge labs of many windows servers and Fortigate/PA Firewalls and ISE .
Uldis I really wish you give me a good advise here :) , thanks

sorry one last confirmation , I am talking about eve-ng community that i am running on my vmware-workstation that I installed on my windows 10 pro .
is this what you mean by supporting AMD , or just like what is mentioned in the website bare-metal support ?
because it is still on the website
( AMD-V/RVI is “capable” processor but not officially supported. AMD CPU newest versions are supported but as Bare EVE install only. Not for ESXi or VM Ware workstation. AMD CPU Does not support newest Qemu version which are required for newest vendor images like Cisco CSRv1000 or Juniper vMX v19.x.)

make sure you have installed really last EVE.

in the /opt/unetlab/html/templates
you should see 2 foleders now, intel and amd
eve automatically detect vm ware or bare your cpu and for new labs will use proper templates.
CSR is wworking on AMD

Do not understand this fuss about amd cpu support.

Where does it work? With bare metal install?

Running amd with VMware workstation, qemu higher than version 2 simply refuses run because of damn old kernel used by eve and Ubuntu 16.

The pain just continues.

Any plan to update underlying Ubuntu?

Also eager to know which bleeding edge package is used by eve that prevents it from running Ubuntu 20.

Are your Apache, open switch, php all is bleeding edge, that has not been tested by canonical before releasing ver 20.

Enough complain from a free community user.

Last ryzen x3900 works very well with VM ware workstation either
Ubuntu 18 is on the way, June release. EVE Pro.

But regarding new Qemus and AMD, its AMD issue mate not the EVE

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

Why are you saying it is amd issue?

It is Ubuntu 16 issue, because of using old kernel without proper support as far as I understand.

And you are saying it is running through VMware workstation with 3000 series ryzen.

I have ryzen 2000 series where it is not working.

Can you please help me to find the necessary logs where I can see the exact error messages?

No mate, it is AMD issue with VM ware..
if you will install eve bare on it, then no problems..
and as I told new 3900x works like charm..
Where is problem then
if 2000 is not ok but 3900 is ok ?? Same setup of VM ware and EVE...

I wont argue with you here, because all guys who migrated to newer AMD have no issues...

Ubuntu 18 platform will be in June, but for EVE Pro.
We tested it already on AMD and no issues with qemu 2.12
