nexus 1k, 2k or 3k

I am new to Nexus series, based on what I have learned the nexus 1k, 2k or 3k get config push from upstream nexus 5k, 7k . I am trying to create a topology where I can configure nexus 1,2,3k switch from Nexus 5k.
Can anyone suggested how should I do my setup. -- i.e. can I use different type of L2 switch in place of 1k, 2k, or 3k ? if so, would that get configured by push from upstream?
