Dear Fellas ,
I plan to buy a PC with 128G RAM to build my home lab.
I am hovering between the older generation server grade CPU E5 2680v4 and the latest home CPU 10th Gen I7 10700K.
Their prices are close.
Any suggestion of which one is better for EVE-NG LAB?
The older generation CPU with more cores or the newest home CPU with less cores but faster?
You advice is highly appreciated.
E5 2680v4 or Intel 10700K

Thx Uldis.
I compared their spec.
In virtualization environment like EVE-NG, I just don't know whether more cores is more important or not. You know, new cpu is always faster in single core.

Hi,
the EVE Priorities are:
1. CPU, as more cores you have as better, CPU is heart of your EVE, best of you could have Server/PC with dual sockets for e5-2680v4 !!!, you would be a king then
2. fast hdd like SSD or SHDD, this drastically improve performance, boot time of nodes, install
3. and only then is RAM, you can have 256Gb RAM, but if your cpu will not hold nodes in lab, RAM becomes useless
PS, my server is DELL R630
dual CPU E5-2650v4 (24 physical, 48 threads)
192GB RAM
4x2Tb SSD HDDs
Running ESXI 6.7 and till today I can carry all what I want, cleverly thinking of course.
not the 100xCSRv1000
I made topic even for it

understandable; however, what about threads vs cores. DO you count total number of threads or only cores?Uldis (UD) wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 12:06 pmHi,

depends of image
Nexus and XRv9K need physical cores
rest counting threads
