Viptela image set as OVA files

Post by verma-rohit » Mon Apr 06, 2020 2:55 pm

Hi,
I understand that there is a HOWTO for viptela image set for qcow2 image but because of vEdge serial number complication I am planning to use Viptela image set on version 16.2.
These images are OVA files, is there a way to import these image in EVE NG PRO and make it work ?

and why i had prepared how to dickuments ???
Qcow 2 versions are the best for sd-wan images.
if you think that preloaded lic will work after convert ova to qcow2, then you are totally wrong..
such vm will lose all certificates and never will work at all..
if you will use qcow2 way pepare images then all will be ok with serial numbers..
as well another tip, stop use vmanage as cer authority, it is known cisco bug..
best is external CA on linux, docker machine on eve pro for example

Hello Uldis,

I do have access to Cisco smart account but i cannot generate serial number files for vEdge. Apparently as per my company policy it is meant only for production boxes and not for home lab.
There is blog post, link below, where an alternative was suggested to setup a lab. The lab setup was on image set 16.2. I got hold of it and is in OVA format. I am able t convert it to qcow2 and it works fine and will try to build control connections tomorrow.
SD WAN setup is easy when one has access to SA/VA with no limitations but for folks like us we need to look for an alternative.

Shared below is the excerpt from blog :

A vEdge serial file needs to be uploaded to the vManage to ensure only authorized vEdges can connect to the fabric. Prior to software version 17.x this file was just a CSV file made up of the chassis number and certificate serial number of the vEdges. After 17.x the vEdge serial file became a signed binary file that can only be downloaded from Viptela and only includes the vEdges for which you have purchased a license.

This is the reason we start by installing the vManage, vBond and vSmart on software version 16.3.2 and later upgrade to 17.2.0 after the vEdges are added to the control plane
Create a file called vedges.csv and upload it to the vManage.

Can i use csv file with vEdge serial numbers in it and upload in vManage for Code version 18.X ? I have just started with SD WAN so please bear with me for some time.
