Hello,
In order to prepare my labs, I bought recently a Dell XPS 9710 laptop with the following main characteristics:
- Operating System: Windows 11
- Processor: Intel i9 11980HK (8 CORES - 16 Threads)
- RAM Memory: 64Gb RAM
- Storage Controller: Intel RST VMD Managed Controller (2x NVMe Gen4 Hard Drives)
- Network Adapters: Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650s 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (201D2W)
My plan is to install this a a Baremetal Server. I have two hard drives, so I would create all the necessary partitions in order to have two operating systems and choosing the one that suits me during boot.
Now, my problem is the following; this version of Ubuntu does not recognize neither my Wireless Network Adapter, nor my Storage Controller.
Does anyone know how can I bypass this issue? I have seen that I could indeed download the required drivers, but I am no Linux expert and I do not know how to add these to the boot installation USB drive, so I am quite stuck here.
Using a different approach, I have also tried installing Ubuntu version 20.04 and this one does recognize my hardware with no issues and installs correctly, but then eve-ng would not be able to run on it. Is there any plan to upgrade eve-ng so it would support a newer Ubuntu version and therefore newer hardware? I can wait a few weeks if that is the case.
Thank you very much.

Hello Uldis, thanks for your support.
I am not installing it in Windows, I have two hard drives and I want to keep one drive untouched with Windows, and I would install Ubuntu Linux on the second drive. I would then use a boot loader to either boot into Windows or boot into linux accordingly.
This works well with Ubuntu 20.04, but Ubuntu 16.04 does not include driver support for neither my network device or storage controller. I even tried with Ubuntu 18.04 and in this case the network device is supported, but the storage is not.
I have checked and Ubuntu drivers exist for these devices, but they are just not included in older versions of Ubuntu. Unfortunately, without the Storage driver installation cannot be completed.
So, my question is..... is there sny way to make eve-ng work on Ubuntu 20.04?
Windows 11 has problems disabling Hyper-V and it disables Vt-x for any other hypervisor, so I cannot run vmware Workstation there either. My options are to either run it as baremetal, or downgrade windows, being my prefered option to run baremetal in order to get full advantage of all resources.
If going Pro would fix it, I would go Pro. Thank you.

That is absolutely great news!! You just gained a new customer. I will wait for that to come and in the meanwhile I will use the vmware version on a downgraded Windows 10.
Thanks a lot Uldis.
Kind regards,
Howler
