Eve NG System Requirement

Post by mvenkatram » Wed Nov 08, 2023 2:44 am

Hello

I intend to buy a dedicated server for EveNG and would appreciate guidance on specs

Here are the requirements
I need to build a Lab to simulate 1000 cisco routers/switches, each will be a independent node with atleast 24 ports for switch or 8 ports for a router

I am considering a Dell 820 4 socket machine with 22cores each and that will be a total of 88 physical cores or 176 threads with around 256 GB RAM, i will be hosting Ubuntu 20.04 server based ISO on the server

Let me know your suggestions if you think the spec is a overkill or i should downgrade the specs

thanks
MV

:)
total overwhelms.
Single vIOS router or switch require at least 1xCPU core and 1GB of RAM
1000 nodes lab you simply cannot run even on such server below
might be 200 nodes this server will hold, but not 1000

While operating numerous virtual machines at once benefits from geometry dash meltdown a high number of cores, 176 threads could be too much for your use case. The number of threads used to simulate network devices does not always expand linearly, and performance benefits may eventually plateau.

If you're planning to simulate complex network traffic or intensive routing and switching operations, you may need to upgrade the RAM or even consider a higher-end server with more cores.
