ASAv, Palo Alto not booting correctly

Post by theusg » Mon May 08, 2017 9:14 am

Hardware: HP Proliant DL385 G7, Processor Type: AMD opteron(tm) Processor 6136 16 CPU's x 2.4GHz, 40GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 4 network interfaces
EVE-NG running on ESXi 6.0 (image ESXi-6.0.0.2494585-standard)
Virtualize Inter VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI activated
For the configuration i have completely followed your installation video (.ova).

FYI: When i do the completely same steps for the installation in VMware workstation, i can boot all images without a problem.

The problem comes in with the ASAv image (asav971-4), the boot process keep on repeating in a loop:

The Palo Alto VM (PA-VM-ESX-6.1.0) just blocks when i start it.

The Cisco router (dynamips) i am able to start up and work with correctly, without an issue:

Is somebody also also experiencing this issue?

Thanks

Sorry but AMD CPU has issues for Cisco and some images to run.
If it is ESXi and EVE as VM you will have no luck.

Probably if to install eve as bare on this box you will be ok...

INTEL is recommended CPU always

I have a similar issue with an Intel CPU with ESXi 6.5.0 (Build 5310538). I previously ran with ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-standard and had the same problem, ruling out the VMware version. 6.5 improves nested virtualisation, which I hoped would help, but no luck. My specs are 4 CPUs x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1226 v3 @ 3.30GHz, 20GB RAM. Intel VT-x is enabled and verified as working in the guest.

ASAv boots OK for me, but I do have problems booting a Fortigate firewall, both with a vmdk to qcow2 (self converted) image and a Fortinet off the shelf kvm image. Both images run fine on VMware Workstation Player on a different box with an i5 CPU. What I get on the console is below.

Code: Select all

[others.c:2390] get_ttree('root') failed

[others.c:2390] get_ttree('root') failed

[others.c:2390] get_ttree('root') failed
I have the same output when running the same image on a GNS3 VM which sort of pointed me to thinking this was either a processor, a hypervisor or kvm specific issue rather than EVE-NG.

An F5 image also fails to boot, with no console output at all.

BTW both installations of EVE-NG were from the OVA. I was going to install from the ISO and retry, but suspect I will hit the same problems.
