Hi,
I’m having an issue with TrueNAS (CORE/SCALE) running as a QEMU node in EVE-NG.
Problem description
• TrueNAS VM boots correctly
• It gets an IP address (static or DHCP)
• Ping works from multiple clients
• However, Web GUI does not load
– browser shows loading screen or hangs indefinitely
– happens from Windows and Linux clients
– tried different browsers
So network connectivity exists, but the GUI never fully renders.
Environment
• EVE-NG (bare metal)
• TrueNAS running as QEMU VM
• Network adapter: virtio
• Management access via browser from LAN
• No firewall in between (direct access)
What we already tried
• Verified IP configuration on TrueNAS
• Confirmed ping and basic connectivity
• Checked MTU consistency (no mismatch)
• Disabled TCP offloading on the client side
• Tested from different OSes (Windows / Ubuntu)
• Restarted middleware / services
• Rebooted VM multiple times
• Changed CPU type
• Changed NIC type
• Tested Clock setup for proper zone/time for all vm's
Observations
• Issue looks not like a routing or IP problem
• More like:
• virtio NIC / driver interaction
• offloading / packet handling issue
• GUI backend reachable but frontend requests not completing
Question
Has anyone seen TrueNAS GUI hanging on loading screen in EVE-NG, especially with virtio NIC?
• Is this a known incompatibility?
• Any recommended QEMU options or template tweaks?
Any hints or confirmed working setups would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: TrueNAS GUI not loading in EVE-NG – IP reachable, ping OK, web UI stuck on loading
I tested all available QEMU versions and the result is always the same. Regarding TrueNAS, I also tested OpenMediaVault and the behavior is identical.
The VM boots correctly, obtains an IP address via DHCP, and basic network connectivity works — I can ping the management IP without any issues. However, the web GUI never loads properly: the page starts loading but gets stuck indefinitely.
I tested access from both Linux and Windows clients with the same result.
MTU settings were verified and matched on all involved interfaces. I also disabled TCP offloading features on the VM’s network interface, but it made no difference.
The VM is running on EVE-NG using a virtio network adapter. At this point, it does not look OS-specific, as both TrueNAS and OpenMediaVault show the same issue, e1000 and RTL8139 drivers also was tested.

Not sure which version do you run, but Free NAS works well

By the way True NAS works as well. After you changed truenas_admin password, reboot your device.. all works
